It is
very advisable to purchase Mexican Auto Insurance. This can be done
on the phone or on the web with a credit card. Or, any other place that
sells Mexican Insurance will work, including milepost 21 in Mexico. It is a
good idea to have it because if you are involved in an accident, you can be
thrown in jail if you don't have the proper insurance. It generally costs
in the range of $12-20.00 a day depending on the value of your vehicle. We
buy it year round for very much cheaper. Lewis and Lewis Mexican Insurance
is a reputable company. http://www.mexonline.com/lewis&lewis.htm

Don't
know about your own personal cell phone. Some of our friend's cell phones
work, others don't. You can call your service before you leave the states
and check on their rates and plans.
There is no bedding for the living room couches that can serve as two twin
beds. You'd have to bring sleeping bags or sheets and blankets if you want
to use those to sleep on.
Each bathroom has 2 towels provided and if you are lucky wash cloths. Even
though we provide all the towels, wash cloths, rugs, etc, the maids will
only put out 2 towels in each bathroom and sometimes you get lucky and they
put out the nice towels and most of the time they put out random towels,
that don't even belong to our unit. We cannot control that as much as we
try. So you will need to bring your own beach towels for the beach. If you
like more than one towel for each person for the week, bring more towels.
Bring your own soap and shampoo as well. They also only provide one roll of
toilet paper for each bathroom. We have a clothesline above the tub that
can be pulled across to hang wet things. There are drying racks in the
closets as well for wet things. Please don't use the shower rods.
I have provided garbage bags and detergent for the kitchen, but they may
run out, depending on how many people use and don't replace. The office
does not act like a hotel, they only provide you keys to get in and take
your money when you leave! If there is an emergency of course you would
have to tell them, but other than that if there is no coffee pot (which there
is a new one) they will not supply. You are renting only from us and not
from them!
I also have a foot bucket that you can fill with water and put on the patio
for washing sand off feet when entering the condo. That is very helpful.
The current/power is the same as in the states, (except in Pilar there are
constant surges.)
You can take bottled water for the ride down. I have a water cooler with
hot and cold (you will have to plug it in when you get there and the 5
gallon water from the office costs $1.60. It is also fine to drink the
water from the tap.
For emergencies, there is the Rescate, which is a donation organization in
San Carlos ( a few miles down the road) (it is associated with the red
cross). Our office can tell you where it is exactly. There is an American
trained/English speaking doctor whom everyone loves named Dr. Canelle
(pronounced Can elly). If a stingray should ever sting you or family, which
is seasonal, going to a doctor, is a waste of time. One needs to stick that
foot in as hot as you can stand it water continuously and that is the only
thing that will relieve the pain. I hate to tell people about that but it
does happen occasionally and those that are not aware rush to the doctor
and there is nothing they really do. There are a million wives tale
remedies, from peeing on it, to soaking in ammonia, bleach, toothpaste,
baking soda, etc, but I swim in the water every single day I am there no
matter what season (I am a distance swimmer), and I have only been hit
twice in 30 years. Hot water relieves the pain. And it bleeds a lot and
don't be worried. Stingray season varies. Jellyfish season is in the warm
waters.
On our own site at Pilar is a restaurant, that is really good. They have a
great bar and a changing menu with lots of choices. The restaurant staff
are wonderful and will do anything to meet your needs. People have catered
parties there and lifecycle events and it even comes with a singing waiter
if it's your birthday. Often on weekends mariachi come in and play which is
delightful. There is a daily happy hour and their frozen margaritas are to
die for.
There is a food vendor guy that comes daily to the beach in his truck. His
name is Alexandro and he is the fruit, vegetable and fish man. He has
bread, tortillas, fresh squeezed orange juice, occasional tamales, and all
the wonderful fruits and vegetables you could ever want! He comes twice a
day and parks right near #143. His prices are a tad bit more than the super
LEY which is the food store in Guaymas, right as you enter the town, 11
miles south. In the LEY you can get any thing you can ever want, it is like
a super K mart. Safeway owns this Ley, so you can find a lot of Select
products, Safeway's home brand.
Now finally, our condo is completely remodeled. Most condos are not is as
good condition as ours is. So if you think there are things lacking,
remember you are in the Cadillac of 2 bedroom condos!!!!
And we beg you to be careful with the staining of the grout on our entire
new beautiful tile. Even though it is sealed it continues to pick up
stains. Please pour juices and coffee over the sink.
Have a great time and please turn off all air-conditioning and fans when
you depart, as well as unplug the water cooler.
Thanks!!
